Buying Tips

  • PSC: Premium Smallholder Coffee — a selected grade of smallholder-grown coffee; over 80% of PNG's coffee comes from smallholder "garden" plots
  • Grades: Estate coffees are graded AA, A, and X, while smallholder coffee is graded PSC and Y, with PSC the more consistent
  • Region: The Eastern Highlands, centered on Goroka, are PNG's main coffee trading hub

Brewing Notes

  • Pour-over: Medium grind, 90–91°C, ratio 1:15
  • French press: Medium-coarse grind, 4-minute steep for fuller tropical fruit and chocolate
