Flavor Description

Dark chocolate and roasted grain on the dry aroma; pronounced but rounded bitterness on entry with cocoa, roasted nuts, and light woody notes; a heavy body with almost no acidity and plenty of crema; and a brown-sugar finish.

Buying Tips

  • Robusta homeland: The forests around Lake Victoria are among wild robusta's native habitats, and Uganda is Africa's largest robusta exporter
  • Screen 18: Beans of screen 18 and above — one of the higher grades of Ugandan robusta
  • Style: Grown higher than in Vietnam or Indonesia, it is usually cleaner with smoother bitterness and is often used in quality espresso blends

Brewing Notes

  • Espresso: 15–25% in a blend adds crema and body
  • Moka pot: Medium-dark roast with milk for rich cocoa
