Brown sugar and faint florals on the dry aroma; bright grapefruit and lemon acidity on entry; blackcurrant and caramel sweetness through the middle; a medium, clean body; and a finish of black tea with a light cocoa note. Similar in style to Kenya, but with rounder acidity.
Buying Tips
AA grade: Like Kenya, Tanzania grades by bean size; AA is the largest, followed by A, AB, B, and others
Region: Around Moshi on Kilimanjaro's southern slopes, Chagga farmers have grown coffee for over a century, often intercropped with bananas
Auction system: Tanzanian coffee has traditionally been sold at the Moshi auction, with direct trade now also permitted
Brewing Notes
Pour-over: Medium-fine grind, 92°C, ratio 1:15
Iced: The bright citrus and berry sweet-tartness is even more refreshing when chilled
