Flavor Description

“Hanami Peony” comes from the Buku Abel washing station around Wamena in Guji's Hambela area. Intense peony and ginger-lily florals bloom first, followed by layered sweet peach, blackcurrant, loquat, and lychee. Honey, cocoa, and persistent florals shape the finish. The aroma is opulent while the acidity remains refreshingly clean.

Award and Processing

Buku Abel natural lots took first place in Ethiopia's Taste of Harvest natural category in both 2016 and 2017. High-sugar ripe cherries are laid on woven African raised beds, turned regularly, and slowly dried for about 8–12 days to concentrate floral-fruit sweetness while maintaining even drying.

Brewing Notes

  • Pour-over: Medium grind, 91–93°C, ratio 1:15
  • Technique: Bloom for about 30 seconds, then use three pulse pours. A higher temperature amplifies the peony florals, while steady flow preserves the full juicy character
